The Maldives Immigration detained 28 foreigners in a large-scale operation conducted yesterday, targeting illegal immigrants and fugitives. The coordinated effort saw the involvement of over 200 officers from various agencies, including the Maldives Police Service, the Economic Ministry, the Health Protection Agency, and the Food and Drug Authority.
During the operation, authorities searched 314 locations and questioned 769 foreign nationals. Of those, 28 were arrested, including individuals staying illegally in the country and others wanted by law enforcement.
In addition to the arrests, Immigration issued notices to 165 foreigners whose visas were found to be incomplete, instructing them to report to the Immigration Department. Meanwhile, 92 employers, referred to as Dhanvantaris, were given written warnings for employing foreign workers illegally.
Officials have warned that failure to comply with the notices will result in further legal action under the Immigration Act. The operation is part of the government's ongoing effort to regulate immigration and address illegal labor practices in the country.
