President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu officially inaugurated the newly renovated Aasaharaa Mosque and Funeral House today, a project initiated during his tenure as Mayor of Malé City.
The ceremony, which included Friday prayers led by the President, marks a significant enhancement to the community's spiritual and funeral services.
The renovation addresses longstanding challenges related to inadequate space and facilities, particularly for individuals with special needs and women, as well as accommodating the many visitors to the cemetery.
The Aasaharaa Mosque has been transformed into a modern two-storey structure, fully air-conditioned, including a comfortable waiting area. The newly revamped Funeral House features three spacious, purpose-built areas for the preparation of the deceased.
Key improvements include a ground-floor prayer area designed for individuals with limited mobility, separate toilets for special needs individuals and children, and gender-segregated facilities. The redesign also introduces outdoor seating, enhanced waiting areas, a widened entrance to the cemetery, and designated motorcycle parking, creating a more accommodating environment for all users.
Following the inauguration and prayers, President Muizzu toured the renovated facilities, highlighting the importance of providing a dignified and accessible setting for citizens using these services. This redevelopment project reflects the President's commitment to enhancing community infrastructure and improving the quality of life for residents.
