High Court revokes the Criminal Court decision of travel ban on former Vice President, Abdulla Jihad.
The medical travel to Dubai requested by the former Vice President Abdulla Jihad was rejected in the Criminal Court hearing last December, with a travel ban. On this Wednesday, the High Court decided to revoke the Criminal Court’s decision after it was appealed at the High Court by Jihad. The High Court ruling stated that the Criminal Court's decision to hold Jihad’s passport was unlawful.
Jihad is charged with corruption and misconduct in a situation of advantage to the state resulting in a loss. The state filed charges against Jihad related to the tourist zone development in K. Fushi Dhiggaru Faru island during his time as the Minister of Finance. The case was underway in Criminal Court when he requested to travel abroad for medical care.
Criminal Court rejected Jihad’s request in suspicion that he could run away, although Jihad gave his assurance that he will return to the Maldives.
