President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced the dismissal of 228 political appointees from various government ministries as part of his administration’s Economic Reform Agenda, aimed at reducing government expenditure.
The decision, shared via the President’s official X account, is described as a cost-cutting measure to streamline government operations and improve the efficient use of public funds.
The removal, set to be implemented within the next 15 days, includes 7 State Ministers, 43 Deputy Ministers, 109 Senior Political Directors, and 69 Political Directors. This measure is projected to save the government approximately MVR 5.714 million per month.
This substantial reduction in political appointments is in line with the President's broader initiative to reform the public sector and address economic challenges, ensuring sustainable management of the country's resources.
