With increasing Covid-19 positive cases from the Tourism Industry of the Maldives, the second wave of Covid-19 has been reported from the Tourism Industry.

As per the recent statistics of the Health Emergency Operation Centre (HEOC), so far, 205 tourist facilities reported Covid-19 cases. Following this, the Minister of Tourism, Dr. Mausoom has advised the Tourism Industry to follow the tourism guidelines from word to word. Minister also requested to be vigilant to not to fall back from all the achievements we have received so far.

Speaking at the recent press conference about the Covid-19 cases reported from the Tourism Industry, Dr. Nazla has stated that from Iruveli resort, two symptomatic people have been recently reported positive to Covid-19. After which, contact tracing and random sampling are ongoing in the resort.

Dr. Nazla also said that positive cases from OBLU select at Sangeli resort have increased to 42 cases. There are 52 people reported as direct contact to the positive cases from the resort. The resort reported the first Covid-19 case on January 3. So far, 98 test samples to Covid-19 have been taken from the resort.

Furthermore, positive cases from Olhuveli resort have increased to 26 cases. All the positive cases from Olhuveli resort have been reported from the employees of the resort. So far, 54 people have reported as direct contact to the positive cases. HEOC informed that random samples were taken from the resort after four people tested positive to Covid-19 initially.

As per the recent statistics, the second most number of Covid-19 positive cases reported is from Biyadhoo Island resort. Biyadhoo Island resort has reported 53 positive cases out of the 104 test samples taken. The first Covid-19 case was reported from an employee of the resort who showed symptoms. He was tested positive to Covid-19 on December 01.

Apart from the resorts, 22 tourists and 02 crew members have been reported positive to Covid-19 from a Safari. Dr. Nazla has said that all the positive people from Safari has been isolated.

The Tourism Employees Association of Maldives (TEAM) has called the management of Tourist facilities to ensure the safety of everyone working in the industry following the surge in Covid-19 positive cases from the Tourism Industry. In this regard, the Minister of Tourism, Dr. Mausoom, called to create working environments possible to follow social distancing.
