President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the proposed budget for 2025 will prioritize housing and homeownership. This declaration was made during the launch of the “Hiyaavehi Financing Programme” on Tuesday morning.
In his address, the President underscored the importance of housing initiatives, stating that the New Policy Initiatives would be aimed at fulfilling commitments made to enhance homeownership. The 2025 budget allocates MVR 1 billion to the “Hiyaavehi Financing Programme,” in addition to MVR 1.5 billion designated for contractors involved in housing development.
Dr. Muizzu emphasized that addressing housing needs ranks just below defense and national security in his Administration's priorities. He assured the public that the government is dedicated to finding long-term, sustainable solutions to the housing crisis and reaffirmed that this focus will persist for years to come.
