The Civil court rejects the court case filed by the opposition parties about the biased opportunity to campaign.

Although the opposition filed a case on the biased opportunities to campaign for the upcoming Local Council Election, the Election Commission has not yet announced any campaign opportunities. The Election Commission has already stressed during the Parliamentary committee meeting about the impartial opportunities to campaign for all the political parties competing at the Local Council Elections. The Elections Commission stated that the Local Council Election will not be announced without prior opportunity to campaign for it.

Speaking to the media near the Civil Court, the opposition raised concerns for the current ruling party members campaigning during official government trips to the islands. The opposition also accused the government of stepping on the right to campaign.

The Local Council Election 2020, was initially postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic with an amendment brought to the constitution.

Currently, the Election Commission is preparing to conduct the delayed Local Council Election since this includes a review of amendments brought to the constitution, the Parliament continues to proceed with it.
