The construction of the new Arabiyya School building has been delayed due to the need for an additional MVR 80 million, according to Education Minister Dr. Ismail Shafeeu.

In response to a question by MDP Parliamentary Group Leader Ibrahim Nazil regarding the progress of Arabiyya School, Minister Shafeeu explained that, although President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu had promised to commence the project within his first 100 days in office, unforeseen expenses have postponed its initiation.

Dr. Shafeeu noted that, prior to the current administration, plans were in place to build the school on the land of the old Jamaluddin School building. However, the new government allocated a larger and more suitable site in the city, prompting a revision of the original scope to modernize the school's design. Updated proposals from the original contractor revealed the need for significant additional funding.

"We initially aimed to start within the first 100 days," Dr. Shafeeu stated. "However, upon reviewing costs, we realized the project would require MVR 80 million more, drawn from public funds."

He reassured that the temporary facility currently housing Arabiyya School students is of high quality, ensuring minimal disruption to their learning despite the delay in construction.
