Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan announced that rental housing flats used repeatedly for criminal activities may face confiscation, as the government takes a stricter stance on crime prevention.
In a recent statement, Minister Ihusaan highlighted an increasing trend where certain rented properties are being exploited as hubs for criminal operations. He emphasized that if these properties continue to be involved in illegal activities, the government will explore legal avenues to transfer ownership to the state.
"From tomorrow, we will begin collaborating with the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) on this issue," he said. "If landlords do not address these problems and their flats continue to be crime sites, we will take steps to reclaim those properties."
He affirmed that the police force will work around the clock to serve and protect residents, and he credited the new administration under President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu with prioritizing these community safety measures.
Minister Ihusaan also emphasized that ongoing coordination with property owners is a key part of this initiative, urging them to ensure that their rental properties do not become repeat crime scenes. This approach reflects the government’s broader commitment to safeguarding the rights and security of citizens.
