The stalled dredging project at Rasmalé has officially resumed, according to the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), which announced the continuation of operations earlier today.
Initially launched in December last year, the project encountered delays in May when the government paused dredging efforts and reconsidered its partnership with CMC, a Sri Lankan company originally contracted for the work. At that time, the government indicated that alternative strategies were being explored to advance the project.
HDC has now confirmed that dredging has restarted in the designated area of Rasmalé. As part of this development, the project includes plans for an underwater tunnel to connect Rasmalé with Malé, enhancing connectivity and access between the islands.
The resumed efforts mark a significant step toward completing a project seen as essential for both urban expansion and improved transportation links in the region.
