President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu met with Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev on the sidelines of COP29, discussing ways to strengthen economic ties and cooperation between the Maldives and Azerbaijan.
During the meeting, President Muizzu thanked President Aliyev for Azerbaijan’s efficient hosting of COP29 and the warm hospitality extended to the Maldivian delegation. He noted the recent establishment of direct flights between the two countries and expressed interest in boosting Azerbaijani investments in the Maldives.
President Aliyev, in turn, expressed eagerness to expand economic cooperation and commended Maldives’ leadership on climate change, thanking President Muizzu for his active engagement at COP29. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to leveraging COP29 as a platform for advancing global climate action and fostering collaborative efforts in addressing environmental challenges.
