Former President and the current Speaker of the Parliament, Mohamed Nasheed, has described the Covishield vaccine arrival from India to the Maldives as a wonderful sight.
In his tweet, Nasheed said that it is a wonderful sight to see the arrival of 100,000 doses of AstraZeneca-Oxford University vaccine, made by the Serum Institute of India under the brand name Covishield.
Serum Institute of India, the world’s largest vaccine manufacturer in terms of numbers, partnered with Oxford University to manufacture their Covid-19 vaccine in India. The Serum Institute of India produces 5,000 doses of the Covishield vaccine per minute.
Nasheed thanked the Indian government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for prioritizing regional safety and aiding neighboring countries during the pandemic.
Earlier today in his tweet Nasheed described the support from India as the beginning of the end of the terrible virus. He highlighted India as our first responder and a dependable friend. Nasheed reminded of the support India provided to the Maldives during the tsunami, 1988 coup, water crisis, and now Covid-19 pandemic.
