President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced plans to revise national housing scheme criteria to ease the housing shortage in Malé.

Speaking to residents of Henveiru at a meeting held at Kalaafaanu School on Sunday evening, the President said eligibility rules would be amended to allow applicants who had previously applied for one-room apartments out of necessity to apply for three-room units under revised criteria. He also said the Government would explore alternatives to the current requirement of five years’ residency in Malé to qualify for housing schemes.

The President reaffirmed his Administration’s commitment to addressing injustices faced by citizens in previous land and flat allocation processes, assuring residents that public concerns would be addressed through policy reforms.
