Higher Education, Labor, and Skills Development Minister Dr. Maria Mariam emphasized that police officers must exemplify law-abiding behavior and high moral standards. She made these remarks at the 2024 graduation ceremony of the National College of Policing and Law Enforcement.

Speaking to the graduates, Dr. Maria highlighted that the police are not merely enforcers of the law but should also serve as moral role models in society. She lauded the government’s efforts to enhance police education by integrating subjects like cybercrimes, digital forensics, and other emerging disciplines into the higher education curriculum.

Dr. Maria also revealed plans to collaborate with international universities to provide more opportunities for specialization in law enforcement fields. She noted that these initiatives aim to equip officers with the latest techniques and resources needed to address modern challenges effectively.

The minister reiterated the government’s commitment to inclusivity in higher education for police officers, with a focus on expanding opportunities for women and those serving in rural areas. She highlighted the National Service Program, introduced by the President, as a transformative initiative to develop a generation of police officers with strong character and dedication.

The ceremony marked the graduation of 297 students from the National College of Policing and Law Enforcement. Graduates from five programs, ranging from diplomas to master’s degrees, received certificates and memorabilia in recognition of their achievements.
