The People’s National Congress (PNC) Chairperson and Speaker of Parliament, Abdul Raheem Abdullah, has dismissed claims of internal factionalism within the party, asserting that his relationship with President Mohammed Muizzu is stronger now than when Muizzu first assumed office.
Speaking at a press conference held at the PNC Office, Abdul Raheem emphasized the unity within the party and his close bond with the president. He stated that there is no faction within the PNC and described his relationship with President Muizzu as closer now than ever before. He also added that the collaboration between the two leaders has grown significantly over time.
Recalling his earlier relationship with former President Abdulla Yameen, Abdul Raheem said his rapport with President Muizzu has surpassed previous connections. He noted that he has known President Muizzu since 2012, and through the PNC, their relationship has deepened. He explained that they now spend more time together discussing political affairs and learning from one another.
Addressing the party’s future, Abdul Raheem dismissed concerns of division and reaffirmed the PNC's unity behind President Muizzu. He highlighted that the party's constitution allows no alternative candidates for the next presidential term. He added that there will be no competition for the presidential ticket, as President Muizzu remains the sole candidate, and the party stands united in support of him.
The comments come amid growing speculation about internal divisions within the PNC. Abdul Raheem’s statements seek to quell rumors and project a strong alliance between the party leadership and the president, emphasizing stability and unity in the party's direction.
