Commissioner of Police (CP) Ali Shujau has assured the public that decisive action will be taken against drug smugglers, promising visible outcomes in the fight against narcotics.

Speaking to state media, Commissioner Shujau highlighted ongoing investigations to dismantle drug smuggling networks and apprehend key figures involved in the trade. He affirmed the police force’s commitment to delivering results, stating that the public will witness comprehensive investigations and appropriate measures against drug lords.

“The anti-drug operation will be conducted in good faith, and the people will see these cases being thoroughly investigated and proper action being taken,” he said.

The CP also disclosed significant achievements in the past year, noting that over 180 kilograms of drugs were seized, along with more than 8,400 bottles and cans of liquor. He estimated the total value of these seizures to exceed MVR 333 million.

Commissioner Shujau further detailed efforts to combat local drug trafficking, revealing that 40 drug-dealing establishments in the capital have been shut down to date. He acknowledged the challenges of establishments reopening but assured continuous monitoring by police.

The Commissioner’s remarks underscore the Maldives Police Service’s intensified focus on curbing drug-related crimes and dismantling networks fueling substance abuse in the country.
