President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has approved the establishment of health centers in six wards of Malé and across the atolls to enhance access to primary healthcare and general practitioner services.

The decision, made during a Cabinet meeting on Sunday, followed a proposal by the Ministry of Health. On the Cabinet's recommendation, the President instructed that the centers be operational by the end of the year.

To fast-track implementation, the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Health, and Ministry of Social and Family Development will collaborate to introduce the services efficiently, ensuring minimal wastage of resources.

President Muizzu also directed authorities to explore using existing buildings to expedite the establishment of health centers in Malé and regional cities. This approach aims to reduce waiting times for specialist consultations and improve healthcare service delivery.

This initiative is part of the Administration's broader efforts to strengthen the country’s healthcare infrastructure. In recent developments, Dharumavantha Hospital has been upgraded to a tertiary care facility, and Hulhumalé Hospital was inaugurated as a tertiary care center, offering a wider range of specialized services.

The new health centers aim to address challenges in the healthcare sector and bring essential services closer to citizens nationwide.
