President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fulfilling campaign promises over the next two years, assuring residents of Thoddoo that the government is set to launch a systematic implementation of its developmental agenda.
Speaking during his visit to the island this morning, the President emphasized his focus on infrastructure development and social stability as key priorities.
Addressing public concerns about unmet expectations for 2024, President Muizzu cited the constraints posed by a budget inherited from the previous administration, which was approved under the former government's parliamentary majority. He highlighted that the transitional phase necessitated adhering to these limitations but assured that the government has now resolved these challenges.
The President detailed plans for the upcoming phase, which will be driven by a budget passed under the current parliamentary majority. This budget, he said, is tailored to address public needs and systematically execute presidential commitments, with several projects already nearing completion.
President Muizzu also underscored his administration’s efforts to ensure social stability, highlighting a shift from the prior practice of releasing prisoners before elections for political advantage. He noted that under his government, prisoner rehabilitation has been prioritized, with only 86 releases over the past year strictly adhering to legal frameworks.
The remarks were made during President Muizzu's two-day visit to North Ari Atoll and Kaafu Atoll, where he is engaging with local communities to assess their needs and progress government initiatives.
