President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu held a meeting with guesthouse operators of Rasdhoo Island in North Ari Atoll at the island’s state house to address concerns and discuss the future of tourism on the island.
During the meeting, the guesthouse operators raised several critical issues, including the ongoing erosion at the sandbank adjacent to the island. They urged the Government to conduct an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the area and implement measures to halt further degradation and protect the ecosystem. Additionally, they highlighted the need for further expansion of guesthouse operations on the island and the installation of a US-dollar ATM to better serve tourists.
In response, President Dr. Muizzu assured the guesthouse operators that the Administration, in collaboration with relevant agencies, would work on solutions to the issues raised. He emphasized that special measures would be implemented to address the sandbank erosion, which is critical for maintaining the island’s natural beauty and the livelihoods of those dependent on tourism.
The President’s visit reflects the Government’s ongoing commitment to supporting local businesses and addressing the challenges faced by the tourism sector in the outer islands.
