President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that 2025 will witness the highest number of housing construction programs implemented in a single year. He made this declaration while addressing residents of Himmafushi during his ongoing tour of Malé Atoll.
Highlighting the region's acute housing challenges, the President noted that while a land reclamation project had been completed in Himmafushi, housing development remains critical for optimal land utilization. He stated that housing will be the government’s top priority for the coming year, followed by advancements in education and healthcare.
Under the Public Sector Investment Program (PSIP)’s New Policy Initiative, the President revealed plans to initiate multiple school development projects and healthcare service expansions in 2025 to address local needs.
Addressing road infrastructure issues across various islands, the President stressed that water and sewerage systems will be prioritized before commencing road construction. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to initiating main road construction in islands with completed utility infrastructure, in line with his manifesto.
Beyond infrastructure, the President outlined economic development initiatives planned in collaboration with local councils. These efforts will focus on enhancing local tourism, fishing, agriculture, and other industries of interest to Himmafushi residents.

As part of his visit, the President also inaugurated WAMCO’s safe waste management services in Himmafushi, marking a new chapter in the island’s environmental management efforts. Residents expressed optimism about the comprehensive development plans shared by the President.
