Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Chairman Fayyaz Ismail has called on the public to stand in defense of the Constitution, warning that failure to act could result in greater losses for the nation.

Speaking at a press conference at the MDP office today, Fayyaz emphasized the urgency of the situation, urging citizens to safeguard constitutional values. "The Constitution represents the power of the people. If we don't defend it today, the loss tomorrow could be far greater," he said.

He accused the government of undermining the authority of independent institutions and Members of Parliament, asserting that these powers are essential to preserving democratic principles.

The MDP has announced a rally to be held tomorrow night to voice their concerns about these issues. Fayyaz urged widespread participation, calling on political parties, civil society groups, and concerned organizations to join the initiative. "This is not just a party concern but a national one. Let us come together to ensure our democratic foundations remain intact," he said.

The rally, titled "In Defense of the Constitution," aims to highlight the challenges facing the nation and rally support for protecting constitutional rights and the rule of law.
