The Maldives and Oman have reaffirmed their long-standing friendship and commitment to strengthening bilateral relations during a high-level meeting between Maldivian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Abdulla Khaleel, and Omani Foreign Minister, His Excellency Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Albusaidi.

The meeting, held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Oman, highlighted the enduring bonds of cooperation between the two nations, deeply rooted in their shared Islamic heritage, values, and principles. Both ministers reflected on over four decades of diplomatic relations and discussed expanding partnerships in trade, tourism, education, and investment promotion.

A key focus of the discussions was the possibility of convening the first round of political consultations between the Maldives and Oman at a mutually convenient time. Minister Dr. Khaleel expressed his gratitude for Oman’s consistent support to the Maldives and reiterated the Maldives’ commitment to fostering stronger ties with Oman.

The ministers emphasized the importance of enhancing people-to-people connections and exploring trade and investment opportunities to benefit both nations.

The meeting concluded with a signing ceremony formalizing two significant agreements:

1. Agreement on Mutual Visa Exemption for holders of diplomatic, special, service, and official passports.
2. Memorandum of Understanding on Political Consultations to institutionalize regular dialogue and cooperation between the two countries.

Minister Dr. Khaleel was accompanied by a Maldivian delegation that included Dr. Hala Hameed, Secretary, Bilateral; Ms. Fathimath Naeema, Senior Under Secretary; and Mr. Mohamed Shujau, Assistant Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

This meeting marks a renewed commitment to advancing shared goals and exploring collaboration opportunities, further solidifying the Maldives-Oman relationship for years to come.
