The final session of the Parliament for this year concluded with significant progress on legislative and administrative matters, achieving a 73.3% completion rate for the work submitted, Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdullah announced.
The session comprised 27 sittings and 165 committee meetings. Throughout the sessions, 20 bills were introduced, four emergency issues debated, and another 20 issues addressed. Additionally, the Parliament continued work on one resolution and five motions from the Presidency, while ministers answered 13 parliamentary questions.
“A total of 67 hours were spent in parliamentary sittings, while committee meetings accounted for 118 hours,” Speaker Abdul Raheem highlighted during the session's closing remarks.
The Parliament's calendar will resume in February next year. As per parliamentary rules, sessions are divided into three terms annually:
- First Term: February 1 to May 31
- Second Term: June 1 to August 15
- Third Term: October 1 to November 30
The Speaker praised the efforts of MPs and committees for their dedication and commitment to advancing the legislative agenda. With the upcoming session, the Parliament aims to continue addressing key national issues and passing critical legislation.
