The 44th Fishermen's Day ceremony and the 10th Rehendhi Awards ceremony, scheduled to take place in the coming days, have been postponed following a fire that caused significant disruption in the city.
The fire originated at the Housing Ministry and quickly spread to adjacent buildings housing the Construction Ministry and the Environment Ministry. Services from these ministries have been temporarily halted as authorities assess the damage.

Similarly, the Rehendhi Awards ceremony, which recognizes exceptional contributions in the fisheries sector and was set for December 15, has also been delayed. The Fire and Rescue Department responded to the incident at 6:27 am and controlled the fire by afternoon. The National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) is currently assisting 29 people from seven households affected by the incident.
