President Muizzu accompanied with the Minister of Construction Dr. Abdullah Muthalib at the scene of the fire incident.
The fire that broke out in the city today destroyed the Construction Ministry building, which Minister of Construction Dr. Abdullah Muthalib described as the employees' "second home."

Dr. Abdullah Muthalib, Minister of Construction, described the incident as a heartbreaking loss, particularly for the Construction Ministry. The building, originally constructed in 2008 as a temporary office, had become a permanent workspace and a second home for its employees.

While the structure was not ideal for a ministry office, Dr. Muthalib emphasized its sentimental value to staff. He expressed regret over the loss of both the building and the invaluable memories it held, while also thanking the public for their prayers and support during this challenging time.

Emergency responders, including the Fire and Rescue Department, successfully brought the fire under control, but not before it caused extensive damage to the Green House building, housing the Housing, Construction, and Environment Ministries. The National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) confirmed that no injuries were reported, and assistance is being provided to those affected.

Investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire. Meanwhile, authorities are assessing the damage to plan the resumption of services and rebuilding efforts. Further updates are expected in the coming days.
