President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the government will not rent temporary office spaces for three ministries affected by last Thursday’s fire, opting instead to wait for a permanent solution.
The fire severely damaged the Ministry of Housing, Land and Urban Development, the Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure, and parts of the Green Building, which houses the Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy, along with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The fire left the ministries unable to operate from their original locations.
In the aftermath, the government temporarily relocated the three ministries to Dharubaaruge, with operations resuming yesterday.
President Dr. Muizzu visited Dharubaaruge today to inspect the temporary offices and meet with ministry staff. He acknowledged the significant losses caused by the fire and commended employees for their resilience, patience, and cooperation during this challenging period.
During his visit, the President also met with the heads of the ministries to discuss ongoing operations and emphasized the government’s commitment to finding a sustainable solution to house the ministries permanently.
