First Lady Madam Sajidha Mohamed inaugurated the National Guideline on HIV, Viral Hepatitis, and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) during a ceremony held at Meerumaa Lounge to mark World AIDS Day on Monday.
The newly released guidelines, which were issued after a nine-year gap, aim to address the growing concerns related to HIV, viral hepatitis, and STIs. Following the inauguration, a panel discussion was held, where experts and participants deliberated on the spread, detection, and treatment of these diseases.
The revision and implementation of the guidelines mark a significant step forward in the country’s health sector. Drawing from the guidance and recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO), the updated guidelines are expected to strengthen efforts in combating the spread of these infections across the Maldives.
In her address, the First Lady emphasized the importance of comprehensive health policies and proactive measures in addressing these pressing health challenges. The guidelines, she noted, are a crucial tool for improving healthcare outcomes and protecting public health.
