Hithadhoo Central MP Ahmed Azaan has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to maintaining a zero-tolerance policy on corruption under the leadership of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
Addressing allegations of irregularities in the allocation of land under the government’s landowner scheme, Azaan cited claims that Housing Development Corporation (HDC) Managing Director Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed’s brother, Mohamed Fazeel Rasheed, was allocated land despite not being listed as a beneficiary.
Azaan noted that the official gazette outlines the names of those eligible for land under the scheme. He emphasized that if someone who was not on the list received land and submitted an agreement claiming entitlement, such a document would be deemed fabricated. He further explained that presenting such invalid documents to state agencies as authentic constitutes a criminal offense.
According to Azaan, Mohamed Fazeel Rasheed, who serves as the Deputy Managing Director of Maldives Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC), had submitted an invalid document to HDC. Records confirm that Fazeel was not listed as a beneficiary under the landowner scheme.
Azaan suggested that more individuals could be involved in the alleged irregularities and called for a swift and thorough investigation by the authorities. He expressed confidence in the Maldives Police Service to handle the matter and reiterated that the administration of President Muizzu would not permit corruption.
The controversy arises amidst a broader investigation by both the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and the police into the alleged misuse of the land allocation process by HDC.
HDC has also announced plans to address the matter and provide further clarification in a press conference.
