The board of the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), along with Managing Director Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed, has been suspended following an investigation into the alleged allocation of land to individuals not included in the land-owning scheme.
In a statement issued today, the Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB) confirmed the suspension of the HDC board members effective immediately. The decision was made to allow a thorough police investigation into the matter and to ensure full cooperation with the authorities. The statement also noted that the suspension was intended to assist the ongoing investigation and maintain transparency.
As part of the suspension, all members of the HDC board, except for Chairman Ahmed Naseef, have been suspended from their positions. Additionally, HDC Managing Director Ibrahim Fazul Rashid has been suspended until further notice.
The suspension follows allegations that land was improperly allocated to individuals who were not on the official landlord scheme list. At a press conference held yesterday, Fazul vehemently denied any wrongdoing, stating that no land had been allocated outside of the scheme and that the HDC had not acted illegally. He emphasized that the HDC does not have the authority to allocate land under the landlord scheme and that any actions taken regarding land allocation were submitted to the Housing Ministry for verification.
Fazul assured the public that he would fully cooperate with the police investigation and authorities, expressing confidence that the matter would be resolved appropriately.
The police have launched a criminal investigation into the case, focusing on the alleged illegal allocation of land to individuals outside the scheme, while the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is also reportedly looking into the matter.
