The Ministry of Fisheries predicts that the Maldives-China Free Trade Agreement will bring significant advancements to the Maldivian fishing industry.
With the Maldives-China Free Trade Agreement, which comes into effect today, the opportunity to export more than 7000 types of products to China without any duty has been facilitated.
As fishing is one of the most exported industries from the Maldives, the Ministry of Fisheries predicts that the agreement will open up more opportunities for fishing and multiply the trade of fish products.
In a statement released today by the Ministry, it was stated that almost all types of products produced by Maldivian fishermen can be exported to China without any tax under the agreement.
It was also stated that this would make it easier for Chinese businesses to obtain Maldivian seafood.
The Ministry's statement said that this step, taken in line with the President's vision, will increase the contribution of fisheries to the country's GDP and directly improve the standard of living of fishermen.
