President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced plans to accelerate the Rasmale' housing project threefold, with a record number of housing initiatives set to be implemented this year.
Speaking to residents of Gulhi in Kaafu Atoll, Muizzu said 2025 would be a historic year for housing development, with the government committed to fulfilling its housing promises. He confirmed that contractors for the new projects would be announced within the month, making this the busiest year for development across multiple sectors.
He highlighted the Rasmale' project as a key solution to the country’s housing challenges, adding that it would also create economic opportunities and bring major benefits to the Malé region.
Dredging work is already underway, and additional companies will be mobilized to fast-track multiple projects, Muizzu said. He noted that while progress was slower last year due to inherited economic issues, efforts are now being made to accelerate development.
The government has prioritized large-scale housing and infrastructure projects as part of its broader agenda to improve living conditions and economic stability across the Maldives.
