President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that public works services will be launched in all provinces of the Maldives by the end of this year.

Speaking during a visit to Maakurathu in North Maalhosmadulu Atoll, the President highlighted the importance of these services in maintaining infrastructure and supporting development across the country.

As part of the Administration’s manifesto, the establishment of public works centers in each atoll is a key priority. The President noted that many existing centers are outdated, while some atolls lack these facilities altogether. The initiative aims to address these gaps and ensure equitable access to public works services nationwide.

The 2025 state budget includes provisions for two mobile public works units, one for the northern and one for the southern regions. These units will be deployed to address urgent infrastructure needs while permanent centers are being constructed.

The President underscored that public works centers will play a vital role in reducing long-term infrastructure maintenance costs in rural areas. By streamlining maintenance and repair operations, these centers will support the government’s broader infrastructure projects and investments.

With the commitment to complete the initiative within the year, the establishment of public works services is set to be a major milestone in the government’s efforts to enhance development and sustainability across the Maldives.
