Former President and Secretary General of the Climate Vulnerable Forum (CVF), Mohamed Nasheed, has warned that worsening air quality could have a negative impact on tourism.
In a post on X, Nasheed highlighted that air pollution levels rise annually during this season, which coincides with the peak tourist period. He emphasized that most of the region's pollution originates from other countries and called for collective efforts to address the issue.

Maldives air quality gets worse every year during this season, which is also peak tourist season. If it continues it is bound to negatively affect tourism. Almost all of this pollution blows in from other countries. We must work collectively to address this problem.
