Higher Education Minister Dr. Ali Haidar has assured that efforts will be made to maintain the quality of higher education institutions in the Maldives.
Speaking at the government's 'Ahaa forum', Minister Haidar addressed concerns regarding the recent decline in the quality of higher education. He emphasized that ensuring academic standards falls within the mandate of the Higher Education Ministry.
He stated that the primary responsibility of the ministry is to ensure that the qualification framework of higher education institutions aligns with the standards set by the government.
Haidar further explained that the Maldives Qualification Authority (MQA) plays a key role in evaluating whether courses are conducted in accordance with prescribed standards before they begin and upon completion.
He acknowledged challenges in maintaining these standards but assured that the government is working to overcome them. He reiterated that the ministry will continue to reassure the public, especially students and parents, that private colleges and institutes adhere to the qualification framework.
His remarks come amid growing concerns over the quality of education in private institutions, with students and academic experts calling for stricter regulatory oversight.
