President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has emphasized the importance of a robust social security system in ensuring a just transition and sustainable development.
In a message marking World Day of Social Justice, President Muizzu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to promoting fairness, equality, and justice. He stressed that economic growth must align with environmental sustainability, particularly given the Maldives' vulnerability to climate change.
The President highlighted that the Maldives became a member of the Global Coalition for Social Justice in July 2024, joining international efforts to strengthen societal resilience and advance social justice through policy integration. He noted that the government is undertaking bold reforms to transform the economy and improve the living conditions of people across the nation.
Referring to the Ras Malé development, President Muizzu said the project aims to establish the country’s first eco-city, setting new sustainability standards while addressing critical housing needs and economic expansion. He reiterated the government's commitment to achieving a low-carbon economy, with targets to increase renewable energy sources to 33% by 2028, as outlined in the Energy Roadmap 2024-2033.
The President emphasized the importance of gender equality and social inclusion in policymaking, ensuring that vulnerable groups, including women, youth, the elderly, and persons with disabilities, are not left behind in the nation’s development. He stressed that a strong social protection system is necessary to safeguard communities from economic and environmental shocks.
Highlighting the role of digital transformation, President Muizzu said his administration aims to use modern technology to create a smarter, safer, and more sustainable society. He also called for reviving traditional community values and social cohesion to build a brighter future for all.
The President shared his message on his official social media accounts, reiterating the Maldives' commitment to fostering an inclusive and just society.
