Lawyer Aik Ahmed Easa, a member of the MDP legal team, has warned that responding to public speech with black oil attacks threatens the safety of everyone in the country.

Speaking at an MDP legal team press conference, he strongly condemned the attack on MDP activist Maryam Zubair (Mandi), calling it a shameful, dirty, and reckless act.

Aik expressed concerns that Maldives is returning to a dictatorial regime, pointing out that investigative agencies are being used to intimidate MDP activists. He alleged that interrogation rooms in all city police stations had been vacated specifically for questioning protesters, raising doubts about whether police are investigating other cases.

He further accused the authorities of prioritizing political crackdowns over serious criminal investigations, describing it as a dangerous trend. He urged the government to put an end to such actions.

Aik also recalled how, during the last MDP government, opposition protesters were regularly dispersed by security forces, arrested, and imprisoned. He warned that the current situation is repeating past patterns of political suppression.
