President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has appointed former Commissioner of Police (Retd) Ahmed Faseeh as the Controller General of Immigration, with the rank of State Minister.
Presidential Spokesperson Heena Waleed confirmed the appointment via a post on X.
Faseeh, who served as Commissioner of Police during former President Mohamed Nasheed’s administration, has an extensive background in law enforcement, having spent 23 years in the Maldives Police Service. He also previously held the position of Deputy CEO at the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).
A graduate of the FBI National Academy, Faseeh completed the FBI General Course of Instruction under the U.S. Department of Justice in Quantico, Virginia. He has also been a member of the Police Board.
His appointment follows the abrupt dismissal of former Immigration Controller Shamman Waheed. While the government has not disclosed the reason for his removal, the Maldives Police Service has launched an investigation into allegations of immigration officers exploiting foreign workers for illegal gain. Three officers have been arrested in connection with the case.
