Former Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Aslam has called for the transfer of the Addu City power plant from Fenaka Corporation to the State Electric Company (STELCO), citing Fenaka’s inability to provide a permanent solution to the city's electricity issues.

Aslam, who previously served as the MP for Hithadhoo North, voiced his concerns on social media platform X, stating that Fenaka cannot address the ongoing power outages in the city.

“I think the Addu City power plant should be handed over to STELCO,” Aslam wrote, emphasizing the need for a more reliable electricity provider.

The city has faced continued criticism over frequent power disruptions affecting multiple neighborhoods. Fenaka Managing Director Major (Retd) Mohamed Najah had previously assured that the power issues would be resolved before Ramadan, even pledging to resign if the problems persisted. However, the electricity issues in Addu City remain unresolved to date.
