The Ministry of Construction has confirmed that 52% of the Thilamalé Bridge project has been completed.
The bridge, part of the Greater Malé area development, will connect various islands to the city. As of the 15th of this month, 52.44% of the work has been completed, with the piling, pier columns, and segments of the superstructure already being laid.
The ministry has spent $251,563,940.20 on the project so far, excluding GST. Afcons Infrastructure of India is constructing the 6.7 km Thilamalé Bridge, which is expected to be completed and handed over to the government by September next year.
The completed bridge will consist of three separate bridges, roadways, interchanges, and parking areas for each of the islands it connects.
