The Ministry of Health has said that a recent increase in complaints related to health services is a positive development, reflecting growing public trust in the Ministry’s accountability systems.

Commissioner of Quality Assurance at the Ministry of Health, Thasleema Usman, told PSM that more people are now bringing forward concerns, including those involving potential negligence, directly to the Ministry.

“Previously, many of these issues were reported to the police. Now we see more complaints submitted directly to the Ministry of Health,” Thasleema said. “I consider that a good sign. People now trust that we will look into their concerns and provide a response.”

She added that while the outcomes may not always align with public expectations, each case is investigated fairly and transparently.

“We always explain how we evaluate the complaints, and we handle them impartially,” she said.

Complaints about healthcare quality, often shared on social media, have raised public concern in recent years. The Ministry’s proactive approach to addressing such reports is seen as part of broader efforts to improve service delivery and accountability in the health sector.
