Discussions held with organizations regarding Generation Ban
The Ministry of Health has held a consultation meeting with relevant associations to gather stakeholder input on the introduction of a generational tobacco ban aimed at building a tobacco-free generation.

The meeting focused on identifying key factors that need to be addressed for the successful implementation of the proposed ban. The generational approach would restrict tobacco sales to individuals born on or after a specific year, permanently prohibiting access to tobacco products for future generations.

Health Minister Abdulla Nazim also held discussions with officials from the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF to seek technical guidance and recommendations on the initiative. The agencies offered insights into global best practices and highlighted important considerations for effectively rolling out such a ban in the Maldives.

The initiative is part of broader efforts to curb tobacco use and its associated health impacts across the country.
