The government’s electric taxi line service is expected to launch between the end of June and the first week of July, according to the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation.
Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, Mohamed Ameen, shared the latest updates during an appearance on PSM’s Raajje Miadhu program. He stated that work on the taxi line is progressing well and that the mobile application required to access the service is currently in development.
He added that preparations such as vehicle charging and maintenance are ongoing at the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) premises. The service, which will be operated by MTCC, is designed to allow customers to access a taxi within a minute of making a request.
The government awarded the taxi fleet contract to MTCC in February last year. The entire fleet will consist of electric vehicles, aligning with the administration’s commitment to promoting sustainable and environmentally friendly public transportation solutions.
Once launched, the new taxi line is expected to improve the reliability and efficiency of urban transport in the Greater Malé Region.
