The Maldives Zakat Fund has announced 50 new scholarships under its Higher Education Assistance Policy to promote Islamic education and human resource development. The initiative was launched today at a ceremony held at the Islamic Centre.
Of the 50 scholarships, 20 are allocated for local postgraduate studies at the Maldives National University and the Islamic University of Maldives. Fields include Quranic Sciences, Islamic Finance, Shariah, and Islamic Studies.
The remaining 30 scholarships are for studies abroad, with 17 opportunities in Malaysia and Brunei, and 13 in top Islamic institutions in Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and SAARC countries. These include undergraduate, Master’s, and PhD programmes.
The Zakat Fund will also provide stipends for students pursuing Islamic fields such as Tafseer, Hadith, and Usul al-Din, and scholarships for specialized medical fields including Neurology and Urology.
This marks a major step in strengthening the Maldives’ Zakat system and aligns with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s vision to enhance Islamic development and education in the country.
