President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has urged Malaysian businesses to explore new investment opportunities in the Maldives, outlining his administration’s vision for a stronger and more inclusive nation during his keynote address at the Maldives–Malaysia Business Forum 2025.
Speaking at the forum, President Muizzu reaffirmed his government's dedication to the pledges made to the Maldivian people, emphasizing the importance of improving the quality of life, strengthening institutions, and unlocking the potential of the country’s islands. He said these priorities continue to guide national development efforts as the Maldives works towards achieving developed nation status by 2040, in time to mark 75 years of independence.
The President positioned the Maldives as a dynamic and strategic partner for Malaysia, stating that meaningful progress cannot be made in isolation. He called for stronger partnerships that draw on the unique strengths of each nation and highlighted the growing appeal of the Maldives’ Special Economic Zones (SEZs), which offer attractive incentives for investors.
President Muizzu noted the strategic geographic location of the Maldives along major shipping routes and pointed to this advantage as ideal for maritime and logistics investments. He also emphasized the resilience and growth of the country's world-renowned tourism sector, with a focus on expanding opportunities in hospitality and eco-tourism.
The business forum is part of a broader effort to enhance bilateral economic ties between the Maldives and Malaysia. President Muizzu’s address reflected the country’s commitment to welcoming international investors as long-term partners in building a prosperous and sustainable future.
