First Lady Madam Sajidha Mohamed graced the opening session of “Anhenveringe Sallaa” on Monday, a pioneering initiative aimed at strengthening and empowering Women’s Development Committees (WDCs) across the country.
Held at Isravvehinge Naadhee Hall in Malé, the event is organised by the Ministry of Cities, Local Government and Public Works and brings together 59 WDC members from Malé City, Malé Atoll, North Ari Atoll, South Ari Atoll, Felidhe Atoll, and Mulaku Atoll.
“Anhenveringe Sallaa” is the first of its kind and provides a platform for WDCs to discuss challenges, share experiences, and identify practical solutions to improve their effectiveness. The two-day discussion will focus on strengthening the role of WDCs under the Maldives’ Decentralisation Act and promoting initiatives that empower women at the community level.
By gracing the session, the First Lady reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to gender equality and inclusive governance. The event continues through April 30 with a series of discussions and collaborative activities designed to advance women’s participation in local development.
