President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has assured that the issue of Desferal availability for children with thalassaemia will be resolved in the coming days.

Responding to a question during the latest episode of the Rayyithunnaa Eku podcast, the President acknowledged public concern over the shortage of Desferal, a medication used to manage iron levels in thalassaemia patients. The issue has drawn attention on social media in recent weeks.

President Muizzu said that while the problem has not been fully resolved, significant progress has been made in the past month. “It will improve in the coming days,” he stated, expressing optimism about a near-term solution.

He further noted that multiple longstanding challenges exist in thalassaemia care and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring children receive the attention and treatment they need.
