The Maldives has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Thailand to enhance collaboration in the development of the country’s health sector.

The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the 78th World Health Assembly, currently underway in Geneva, Switzerland. State Minister Hadija Abdul Samad Abdullah signed the MoU on behalf of the Maldives Ministry of Health, while Thailand was represented by Deputy Minister of Public Health, Dash-is Kawthong.

According to the Health Ministry, the MoU focuses on several key areas including strengthening primary healthcare, health regulatory frameworks, the Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA), human resources, health policy, system research, and health information technology.

The agreement also aims to facilitate sustainable and innovative financing solutions to improve the health sector.

A joint working group will be formed under the MoU, along with a detailed action plan to ensure effective implementation of the partnership.
