President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu says the Maldives is beginning to see positive results from its vape ban, with a noticeable drop in respiratory illnesses and increased public efforts to quit vaping.
Speaking at a press conference at the Presidential Palace on Wednesday, the President highlighted the success of recent anti-tobacco measures, including the lifetime tobacco sales ban for anyone born on or after 2007.
“The government's decision to ban vape has had very good results,” he said, adding that hospitals have reported fewer patients with respiratory conditions.
The Maldives banned the import and possession of vapes on December 15, 2025, under legal amendments spearheaded by President Muizzu. He emphasized that the aim is not to penalize individuals but to promote a healthier, tobacco-free future through education and awareness.
