Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Abdulla Khaleel departed for India today on a two-day official visit to lead the Second Meeting of the High-Level Core Group (HLCG) between the Maldives and India.

The meeting is scheduled to take place on 26 May 2025 at the Indian Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi. The HLCG was established to implement the "Maldives and India: Vision for Comprehensive Economic and Maritime Security Partnership" — a strategic framework agreed upon by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi following their meeting in October last year.

The agenda includes discussions on a wide range of key areas such as transport and connectivity, agriculture, fisheries, trade, economic development, health, people-to-people exchanges, capacity building, and defence and security cooperation.

Dr. Khaleel is also expected to hold bilateral talks with India’s Minister of External Affairs, Dr. S. Jaishankar, to assess the overall progress of Maldives–India relations and discuss regional and international matters of mutual interest.

He is accompanied by a high-level delegation including senior officials from the President’s Office and the Ministries of Defence, Construction, Finance, Economic Development, and Homeland Security.

The first High-Level Core Group meeting was held in Malé on 29 January 2025.
