President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has designated the Ministry of Defence as the implementing authority for the Maldives National Service.
The decision was announced in Directive 8/2025 issued by the President’s Office today.
Effective immediately, the Ministry of Defence will oversee all aspects of the National Service programme, including rule formulation, enrolment processes, registration, and administrative management. The ministry will also be responsible for planning and conducting training in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
In total, 10 new responsibilities related to the National Service have been added to the Ministry’s mandate.
The Maldives National Service is a flagship initiative of President Muizzu’s administration, aimed at developing a skilled and productive youth population for national development.
